Samsung is scheduled to launch the Galaxy A8+ 2018 smartphone on Wednesday noon at an event in New Delhi. The company had sent invites for the launch event last week without naming the device it would unveil but has since broken its silence. Recent posts on the Samsung Mobile India Twitter handle have confirmed the new handset will be Galaxy A8+ which was recently released in Vietnam.
In terms of pricing, the Galaxy A series has always been in the above Rs 25,000 price range depending on the model and variant. Last year’s Galaxy A7 was launched at a price of Rs 33,490 so do not be surprised if Samsung continues to stick with a similar or higher pricing for the new phone. Amazon India has a Notify me the option for those who are interested in buying the new Galaxy A8+ once it goes live on the website.
The smartphone is the first from Samsung’s camp to feature dual-selfie cameras. The Galaxy A8+ bears a 16-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with the same aperture of f/1.9. The dual cameras are used to create from clear portrait shots to close-ups with background blur. Then there is Live Focus feature that adjusts the bokeh effect before or after you take the picture.
Considering Samsung wouldn’t say how much the A8 will cost when it hits UK and US shores in the next few months, it’s hard to really judge how good it’s going to be. I’d hazard a guess that it’ll sit between £399-£499 and that puts it right in the firing line of the OnePlus 5T some great devices from Honor and even a reduced price S8 if you’re lucky. But I think this will be a winner with those looking for an affordable phone on contract.
The Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based smartphone comes in two configurations, 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage and 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage, and both support microSD cards of up to 256GB capacity. The 3500mAh battery of the Galaxy A8+ supports fast-charging, and the connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and LE, NFC, USB Type-C, GPS, and GLONASS.
